OUR FOCUS
Focus on rehabilitating victims of violence also aims to address the legal vacum that the Ethiopian legislations have when addressing gender-based violence.
Plan of Elibat is to create vigilant citizens within Ethiopia who are defenders of their rights. Elibat believes that aware and conscious citizens are the best solution to address the issue of injustice. Elibat aims to become one of the most notable civic societies in Ethiopia that operate in different parts of Ethiopia where gender-based violence is deeply entrenched, endangering the well-being of not only the victims but also the society.
Elibat plans to partner with schools to establish legal-education clubs that train students starting from a young age to defend and enforce their rights as well as respect the rights of their fellow citizens, making them more aware of their surroundings.
In the early times, the issue of gender-based violence had not been given due attention under the Ethiopian national legal frameworks. By the national legal frameworks, the researchers refer to the Ethiopian Constitution, the Revised Family Code, the Criminal Code, and other relevant policies pertinent to combating gender-based violence in Ethiopia. In this part, these national instruments will be discussed.
